Another main character from “House of the Seventh Minuet,” Killian Riordan was born in Ireland. He is the second-oldest of seven children, and while his older sister finds helping the younger siblings tedious (she’s more of the career-driven type), Killian enjoys it. He sets a good example for his little brothers and sisters, helping them with homework and chores, but also playing with them when it’s the right time for it. That’s not to say that his parents dumped all of the responsibility on him; they’re still very involved as well.
Killian’s family eventually moved to Oregon, and he maintains both Irish and American citizenship. Additionally, a couple of his youngest sibling were born in America. Killian is old enough to be finished with college, but he has brothers and sisters still attending, plus some still in high school. Since he’s busy with work and developing his relationship with Larsa, he’s usually only asked to help the family if nobody else can (when it comes to school) and around the holidays. He even has a couple nieces and nephews who are toddlers or infants, and he loves spending time with them.
Mrs. Riordan was formerly Miss Moss, making her a somewhat distant relative of Leila. In turn, Leila and Killian treat one another as cousins, regardless of any family tree technicalities. Killian’s family is very supportive of his sexuality, and they’re happy that he’s taken the time for self-discovery. They also really like having Larsa around– especially since he likes helping with the babies during family gatherings. Killian learned a lot of the secrets to caring for babies from his parents, and like Larsa, he wants to eventually settle down and adopt.
Larsa isn’t Killian’s first boyfriend, and thanks to his family’s support, he never had to hide who he really was. He had a long-term boyfriend in high school, but he eventually moved away. After that, he had a handful of relationships that were shorter, and it wasn’t until he met Larsa that he was ready for something truly serious.
During the time period of Leila’s adventures in Tierney Ríocht, Killian was a part of the orchestra, and he also taught bassoon and wrote and recorded music on the side. If he ever has to move somewhere, these are skills he can easily take with him.
I might do a group drawing of all four friends eventually, but for now, you can see my drawing of Killian here.
