“How Do You Talk to an Angel” was a song that I first heard back in the early 90’s, when the TV show it appeared on, “The Heights,” came out. I guess I never got into he show, but the song has always been one that I loved. If it weren’t for NaNoWriMo, I would be tempted go back and watch the series… I like older shows; some other modern ones are just terrible.
Either way, this song reminds me of how Zarrek feels about Starshine. He would never sing it (that would be far too out of character), but the feelings that it expresses remind me of his confusion over what to do about her. I never designed their relationship after this song… I just love the coincidences that come up sometimes. This old song, and the way that my story developed. I mean, the whole reason that the song was popular was that so many people had feelings like those in the song. You like someone, but it’s not easy approaching them and getting to know them. Zarrek ends up with similar problems, except that he has to deal with her father not liking him on top of all that.
I love it when music inspires me… not always to give me a new idea, but to keep my going when I start to have my doubts… or to push me to write more, even if I’m getting tired (and I have been incredibly tired lately). If my book had a soundtrack to represent all the different scenes, or at least what inspired them, it would be the most eclectic thing that you have ever heard. But then again, I have often been called “unique.”
And I like it!
