Loratannh Success

In case you hadn’t guessed it already, ‘Loratannh’ is the adjectival form of Lorata.  That is a fun thing about making up your own world and everything to go with it: you can also choose the adjectives.  In real life, I have to go along with the way things already are; I have to say Greek, not Grecian, French and not Francan (that sounds funny in so many ways).

Still, a big part of the creative process is sharing your work.  I love my characters, and I want others to love them as I do.  Even the bad ones, like incompetent old King Eoren or–or– well, there are few that I can’t say to much about without providing spoilers.  But even the demon god Métius can be appreciated for providing the trials that he does.  I’m not a writer for the purpose of making money, but know that someone would be willing to pay to read my story  must mean that it’s good.

I know very well that there are plenty of stories that never get published or paid for that are very much loved, so making money doesn’t necessarily mean success (as nice as the extra income would be).  I would love to have a fan base, people who come to WordPress specifically to check whether I have posted another chapter.  It doesn’t have to be only mine that they check, let me clarify, but they get excited to see what the Loratannhs are up to now.  Maybe they send me Paypal donations, maybe not.  If they did, and it became steady, I could start ordering little trinkets like pins or magnet, and commission some artwork (I love to draw, but my talent is limited).

Whether I only post online or get officially published, it would be awesome to have enough fans that people would go to a convention or book signing to see me.  I would love to shake hands with my readers and, admittedly, talk about all things geek and nerd; my interests in culture, language, gaming, other fantasy and sci-fi novels and shows.  Oh, and the fact that you can sit me down in front of Linux or Windows or Mac, and I can actually use the thing.  Just to talk with someone who loves my stories would be incredible.

With this blog, the greatest dream I have would be to have a publisher, agent or editor contact me, whether with a serious interest or just to encourage me.  Even just a note along the lines of, “I like your blog and your serial novel. You should apply to…” would be an honor.  Not the kind of stuff that’s just an ad to make the other person money, but a sincere inquiry letting me know that I really have something here.  As nervous as I am about sharing my life’s work, I also don’t want to spend a lifetime on it only to keep it locked away.

Each of my stories is different, no matter how related they are.  The princess of the kingdom of Legend, my serial novel, starts off similar to the old legends, explaining how the elves met Jenh and the other gods, while Book One: The Champion of the Goddess is a story of hope even in the face of betrayal.  Book two…. well, Traipsing Light and Shadows is many things.  I am going back to it after I am done with this post. It is love and heartache, life and death, trying to find one’s way through turmoil and darkness even while wondering if you are welcome or deserve to be in the light.  Book Three: The Misty Shores of Cioria raises the question as to whether justice can be achieved even through questionable means, and whether even the darkest can have any goodness hiding within them.  At the same time, is goodness really what it seems to be?

Actually, love is important in all of my stories, but it seems like it’s an especially big deal in book two.  Maybe it’s because I’ve been working on it so much lately, maybe because it’s been coming together so quickly… I don’t know.  It has a lot of relationships in it, too, each of them a little bit different.  I suppose it just goes to show that love can be found in a lot of different places, and in many different forms.  There is no one way to love.  I think it’s all of these messages that I would really like to get across.  It doesn’t matter what style or genre I write, and being paid isn’t that important in comparison to knowing that my stories are love and appreciated.
