Those things on your feet

Legends of Lorata has all kinds of boots.  Soft leather boots like Shiir would have worn.  Zarrek’s tall black lace-up boots.  The kind with the fol-over cuff that Vincente probably wears now and then… I’m sure you’d love to know who he is!  The soldiers wear boots, and so do a lot of the villagers and sailors.

I suppose I put them on my characters because I personally love them.  I don’t own a single pair of heels; there’s just no way.  If work required them, I would be in big trouble.  Heels aren’t made in wide, and they just weren’t made for walking.  They’re made for tip-toeing around and looking pretty.  Nope, I go for practical.  My trusty Doc Martens are the best shoes I could ask for.  I’ve tried sneakers, skater-style and those ones with the rounded bottom that are supposed to help tone your legs but really just make you feel clumsy.  None of them are as good as my Docs.  I mean, I have a couple pairs of nice shoes that I could wear to work, but I like my boots.

I hear a lot of people complain that they can’t wear sandals or or flip=flops; not me.  In fact, I didn’t even warm up to Crocs until I found some with a fuzzy lining, and those are for casual wearing.  If I find boots with fur-like lining, I snatch them up.  I have a tall pair that I wear with my medieval-style dress (so really, not that often), and another pair that will keep me warm this winter.

Still, for the most part, I stick to my Doc boots or the Docs that are ankle-level, depending on the color I want.  They have the quality, feel and feel that I need; they don’t wear out after two months, they can deal with wide feet, and they feel as good as you’re going to feel after seven hours on your feet.

I guess that’s why so many of my characters wear them, too… I mean, besides the setting.  I mean, my noble ladies have their slippers, and some regions do have low shoes or sandals, but I have a lot of warriors in my stories who need to protect their feet.  Now, I would say something about a particular pair of Zarrek’s boots, but I think it would just give away too much!

About Legends of Lorata

Eleanor Willow is the author of the high fantasy series Legends of Lorata, which takes place on a medieval-style world filled with elves, dragons, and faeries. There is also a fourth race, one that is rare and magical: the angelic Starr. Lorata is a distant planet watched over by four deities: good, evil, elemental, and celestial-- and there are plenty of legends about them all! One of the most important ones is the prophecy of Jenh's champion, Loracaz, who is promised to return to the realm whenever evil threatens to take hold. There are currently three books completed, and the first one can be read online. Book four is currently being written, and a fifth will most likely be in the future.
